2012 Open Board Positions

If you are interested in serving on the Central Ohio Emmaus Board please contact Nanette Overly at the Gathering or email her at nmoverly@yahoo.com. Serving on the board requires dedication to attend the weekend activities, monthly board meetings the 4th Tuesday of the month, and a 3 year commitment to the position. The positions which will be open this year and a brief description of their duties are listed below.

Agape—Send agape letters to other communities for their walks. Collect agape for the walks we are holding and have it available for the ALD’s on each walk by Friday afternoon or put with the Justifying Grace talk. Sort all agape delivered to the church for every walk. Deliver letters to all team members each night on their beds. Sort mealtime and bedtime agape for each day, and keep it on a table in the agape room so the ALD’s or kitchen help can come pick it up. Set up agape room on Thursday night and tear down on Sunday afternoon.

Kitchen—Purchase all food and supplies for the weekend. Set up/tear down the Emmaus kitchen supplies for the weekend. Be available to daily Kitchen Coordinators in case of an emergency.

Men’s Good Shepherd—Assist new pilgrims in finding a share group in their home town or near where they live or go to church. Occasionally put an article in the Rooster to ask for people that would like to help other groups get started to let you know. Attend all closings to be introduced. Obtain a listing from the Data Processing board rep in alphabetical order by zip code to assist you in locating people in the pilgrims area.

Secretary—Responsible for roll call at all meetings. Sends out minutes of the meetings monthly. Keep track of people eligible for Lay Director position. Assist with team selection and help Community Lay Direction and Assistant Community Lay Director as needed.

Social—This position involves work during gatherings and pilgrim send-off on Emmaus Thursdays.  On gathering nights, this position is in charge of ordering pizzas for the dinner prior to gathering and shopping for salads, dressings and beverages. All monies spent are reimbursed by the Board. During a walk weekend, the social chair is the point person for the team who is providing the meal. You would set up the drinks as well as table settings.

Sponsorship—Be at each Walk on Thursday evening to assist with the Sponsor’s hour and hand out description of events. Put names on crosses for each pilgrim for each walk, and provide lanyards for each cross. Make sure that the Registrar is sending out the letters for the sponsors in a timely manner.

Team Selection Chair—Follow the Emmaus Guidelines and Community By-laws for team selections.  Setup and lead team selections. This is a new position which the board just voted to include as part of the board.

CHRYSALIS

Before it becomes a butterfly, a caterpillar goes through a growth stage during which it is called a "chrysalis."  On the surface it may not look like much is happening, but the delicate chrysalis process changes the  fuzzy caterpillar into an awesome butterfly with wings of intricate designs and intense colors. The chrysalis process symbolizes how Christ can transform you into something beyond your dreams. It happens when you grow beyond yourself, opening your life to Jesus' power and love.

"Chrysalis" is the name chosen for the youth and young adult version of The Walk to Emmaus, its parent movement, because it symbolizes the spiritual growth that is essential between adolescence and adulthood. That growth is as crucial for youth as the cocoon is for the caterpillar. It is that precious time of nurturing a person's faith for discipleship.

Chrysalis "Flights" (for 10th through 12th graders) and "Journeys" (for young adults, ages 19-24) are three day events. This three-day spiritual renewal time provides an opportunity for you to learn more about faith, to experience Christian love and support, and to make new faith commitments. The point is to inspire, challenge and equip you for a closer friendship with Christ and for Christian action at home, church, school, and community.

Chrysalis lifts up a way for you to enjoy Christ's friendship and love and to be Christ's friend and partner in the world. The three days focus on God's grace, your experience with Christ as friend, what it means to be the body of Christ, and giving love to a needy world.

Please think of that young adult that you know that needs to experience God’s unconditional love, or that young adult who has a faith and can have it encouraged to grow into even more service for his kingdom.

Thank you for Serving
We love the many volunteers we see in the kitchen, logistics and other areas during the weekend! However,
it would be a great help to the Kitchen Coordinator and the Logistics Coordinator if you would please signup
either during a Gathering or drop them an email. Part of their responsibilities is to assure that enough volunteers
are in place for a smooth weekend. Many times they are calling in some help, not knowing help is on
the way! So lets lend them a hand, by signing up in advance. Thanks from the Board.
