Letter From
the Board
It is with great regret that the board voted to
postpone Women’s Walk #103
from July to November. It was not an easy decision,
especially with the Walk
scheduled to begin in a little over a week. The team,
the board and many
community members have worked hard and prayed hard these
past few
weeks attempting to get enough pilgrims for good table
discussions and
overall Walk logistics.
Present for the meeting and in agreement with the
decision were team
members: Spiritual Director - Dick Smyers, Board
Representative - Marion
Johnson and Lay Director - Doris LeFavour.
I would like to thank Doris LeFavour and her team for
the hard work they
have put into preparing for this weekend. In the spirit
of cooperation and
charity, they wanted what was best for the
pilgrims...and that is a true
example of selflessness and being a true servant of God.
Prayerfully Yours,
Mary Rodman |

Central Ohio Emmaus Community,
Being LD on Walk #102 was a wonderful experience for me.
I would say it was “awesome” but I’m
reserving that word for only Jesus and his “awesome”ness. Gloria Brooks,
(Spiritual Director) and I
prayed about our roles on the team for many months before the team was
selected. Once we got
started with our meetings it was obvious that God had a definite plan
for all of us and that each of us
was willing to listen to Him and act according to the guidelines He had
provided. There were no “lone
ranger” team members on the team. Every team member was humble, not
seeking glory for herself,
but rather more concerned with making everyone’s job run as smoothly as
possible. I stood in wonder
as I watched complete strangers meld into a cohesive group ready to
serve in any way they were
called.
When the weekend finally arrived, the team was ready to go. They had
listened intently to the
instructions given during all the meetings and were serious in their
desire to serve. They all said they
wanted to have fun, but they all wanted the weekend to be “holy and
reverent” as well. They all made
a commitment to be at all the team meetings and to read their manuals.
They even tolerated the
“quizzes and prizes” over each chapter of the manual. They understood
that the Emmaus Manual was
the guide book for the weekend just like the Bible is our guidebook for
life. Reading it once will not
guarantee that you’ll know how to handle every situation that comes up
on a weekend. The team all
seemed to grasp the importance of knowing their jobs and acting in
“self-sacrificing” ways.
I have served on other committees and groups doing lots of different
things for the Lord, but I have
to honestly say that being Lay Director for Central Ohio Emmaus was an
almost indescribable
experience.
I thank God for giving me the blessing of serving with 26 wonderful
women and being a part of 28
Pilgrims journey to Emmaus. It was a glorious trip!

The Rooster
The board met on June 8th for
our monthly meeting.
A decision was made to relay information to the
community as quickly as possible by creating an
interim mini-Rooster which will be available via
email
and web only. So look for additions of ‘The Babe
Chick’ online between Roosters!
There is a minimal subscription cost to help
offset the
cost to print and mail the Rooster newsletter
for each
Emmaus Walk. If your subscription was not
updated
by May 2010, you will no longer receive your
newsletter in the mail. To update your mailed
subscription, send the $5 annual fee to:

The Emmaus community provides
childcare for
Gatherings, Candlelight, and Closings. The cost
is $1.00 per child, which is not a donation or a
tip
to the sitter. The $1.00 helps offset the
expense
of the babysitter paid by the community. Please
continue to help with expenses by remembering
to pay for the services offered. |

Men and
Women’s Registrar
Many of our older applications are becoming outdated as
people move, disconnect house phones and
change emails. If you have an application(s) for a
pilgrim on file, please email the Men’s and/or Women’s
Registrar to update or check on information. This would
be a great help to the community and the board. |

The Men’s and Women’s Good Shepherds would like to keep
their databases current, so they can more easily connect new community
members with share groups. Please take time to fill out the survey on the
last page of the paper Rooster and mail it in. You can mail the form
to: FUMC c/o Men’s (or Women’s) Good Shepherd, 207 S. Court St., Marysville
